Milestone: Observation tower built and in use

How exciting, the observation tower is complete! In collaboration with the Amersfoort Wildlife Fund, we have been working diligently on this project. Now the time has finally come; the tower is ready for use! This is a significant milestone for the protection and development of the reserve.

Why an observation tower?

  • First and foremost: protecting the rainforest. We can now do what we have always done even better. Thanks to this tower, the park rangers in the reserve are able to spot poachers and other malicious individuals across a large part of the reserve and observe changes. This allows them to anticipate potential damage to flora and fauna more quickly.
  •

Shared use: park rangers from the adjacent Barbilla National Park can also use the observation tower to protect this area.

  • In addition, of course, there is research. Think, for example, of animal counts and research into the Buffon’s Macaw (Great Green Macaw), for which nesting boxes have been placed. An affiliated reforestation project can also be monitored.

Placement of the observation tower

The tower is located at the highest point of the reserve and has a steel structure that is firmly anchored in the ground. This makes the tower resistant to the regularly severe weather conditions. The location of the tower is inaccessible to large machines, so everything was done with small tools and a lot of manual labor. This also meant that it had a minimal impact on nature!

Rangers, researchers, and students can start using the tower immediately! Would you like to help protect this beautiful area? You can do so by adopting a piece of rainforest!
